Press Release: Eri-Justice - 01 November 2021: A workshop on gross human right violations in Eritrea: Evidence-based approach.
It is a well-known fact that Eritrea is in the grip of a severe winter of a totalitarian dictatorship that tolerates any form of dissent. According to reports of the UN Human Rights Council on Eritrea, the government and ruling party, the People’s Front for Democracy and Justice (PFDJ), have perpetrated crimes of enslavement, imprisonment, enforced disappearance, torture, persecution and murder. The report also reported that high-level officials authorized sexual violence as a method of punishment in compulsory military service camps – where conscripts are subjected to indefinite periods of national service – concluding that these crimes amount to sexual slavery and torture. Thus, the regime is responsible for systematic and widespread human rights violations that may amount to crimes against humanity.
It is not only the UNHRC that highlighted the above-mentioned gross violations of human rights. Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International, US state department, European Union, etc.. . have repeatedly highlighted the same issues. Most importantly, the regime has affected every Eritrean’s tight grip on the cultural, economic and political spaces. To maintain this absolute control, the regime has gone to great lengths to suppress any social and political forces. Citizens have been made to constantly live in a state of panic resulting from conflict, poverty and indefinite national service, leaving no choice but to abandon the state in droves. Eritrea has been one of the highest refugee-producing nations relative to its population. In addition to this state affairs, the state routinely engages in disappearances, unlawful detentions, extra-judicial killings, sexual abuses, sexual slavery, and forced conscription of children.
Therefore, the Eritrean Youth Movement for Democracy (EYMD) is in a fortunate position to have a quantitatively and qualitatively significant evidence of such crimes. It also recognizes that Eritreans of all walks of life, age and ethnicity are the victims of these crimes. Through the Eri-Justice unit, the movement will embark on exposing the crimes and present these crimes to the international courts of justice in a systematic way. The unit will collaborate with Eritrean individuals and groups, international journalists, human rights advocates and organizations, and the government to carry its responsibility. It is important to note that the movement is aware of the sensitive nature of the evidence and will share and release it responsibly.
The Eri-Justice unit will organize a series of workshops to chart the best way forward. It will explore collaboration, strategies, tactics and approaches. In addition, it will explore best practices by learning from previous attempts on this issue. It will mainly focus on the following issues:
1. Extra-judicial killings and unlawful detention
2. Sexual Abuse, exploitation and slavery
3. Forced conscription of children (child soldiers)
Eri-Justice invites individuals with vast experience to share their experiences and put forward ideas to assist the unit.

ገበናት ኣንጻር ሰብኣውነት፡ ብዝሰፍሐ ሜላ ኣብ መዳጎኒ ቦታታት፣ ከም ወተሃደራዊ መሰልጠኒ፣ መዓስከራት፣ ከምኡ’ውን ኣብ ዘይወግዓውያን ናይ ሲቭል ገዛውትን ግራውትን ዝተደኮኑ ኮንተይነራት ጎዳጉድን ንልዕሊ 25 ዓመታት ብምሕያር፣ ንክትገልጾም ዘሸግሩ ኣሰቀቕቲ ግፍዕታት የካይድ ኣሎ። ብመሰረት ዝተዘርግሐ ጸብጻብ ናይ ሕ.ሃ. ኮምሽን ምጽራይ ሰብኣዊ መሰላት፥ ምርሻን፣ ግዱድ ዕዮ (slavery)፣ ግዱድ ዕስክርና ትሕቲ ዕድመ፣ ማእሰርቲ፡ ምስዋር፡ ስቅያት፡ ግፍዒ፡ ጾታዊ ዓመጽ፡ ካልኦት ኢሰብኣዊ ተግባራትን፡ ብምፍጻም ኣብ ህዝቢ ራዕዲ ብምእታው፡ ተቓውሞ ህዝቢ ንምግታእ፣ ዕድመ ስልጣኑ ንምንዋሕ ዝሰርሓሉ ዘሎ ኣረሜናዊ ተግባር እዩ።
ኣብ ጸብጻባት ሕቡራት ሃገራት ጥራይ ከይተወሰነ፣ ኣብ ከም ኣምነስቲ ኢንተርናሽናል፣ ሁዩማን ሪይትስ ዎች፣ ናይ ሕቡራት መንግስታት ኣመሪካ ተጣበቕቲ ሰብኣዊ መሰላትን ኣባላት ኤውሮፓዊ ሕብረትን ብተደጋጋሚ ክገልጽዎ ዝጸንሑ ጉዳይ ምዃኑ ምግንዛብ የድሊ። እዚ ገበናት ንኩሉ ኤርትራዊ ብቀጥታ ኮነ ብተዘዋዋሪ ተንኪፎዎ እንተበልና ምግናን ኣይኮነን። ስርዓት ህግደፍ፣ ነቲ ኣብ ሃገረ ኤርትራ ፈጢርዎ ዘሎ ጭቆና ንምውሓስ፡ ንፖሊቲካዉን ማሕበረ-ቁጠባዉን ጽላት ዓትዒቱ ሐኒቑዎ’ሎ። ዜጋታትና ብሰላም ሰሪሖም ከይነብሩን፣ ቀሲኖም ከይድቅሱ፣ ኣደዳ ድኽነት ብምግባር ንዘይተገደበ ግዜ ኣብ ዕስክርና ስለ ዝጸመዶም፡ ሃገሮም ገዲፎም ብጃምላ ክስደዱ ተገዲዶም። በዚ ምኽንያት ሃገርና ኤርትራ፣ ምስተን ብቐዳማይ ደረጃ ብብዝሒ ዓዶም ገዲፎም ዝስደድወን ሃገራት ተሰሪዓ ትርከብ። እቲ ዝኸፈአ፡ ንዜጋታትና ዘሳቒ ዘሎ ናይ ኣእምሮ ነውጺን ርእሰ-ቕትለትን ብናህሪ ይዓቢ ምህላው እዮ።
ነዚ ብምግንዛብ፡ ምንቅስቃስ ኤርትራውያን መንእሰያት ንፍትሒን/ዲሞክራሲን ‘ጨንፈር መጽናዕቲ ግህሰት ሰብኣዊ መሰላት’ ብምቛም፡ ብዘለዎ ሐበሬታን መርትዖታትን ተሞርኲሱ፣ ንገበናት ናይቲ ስርዓት ብምቅላዕ ኣብቲ ዝምልከቶ ዓለምለኻዊ ናይ ገበን መጋባእያታት ከብጽሖ ወሲኑ። እዚ ጨንፈር መጽናዕቲ ግህሰት ሰብኣዊ መሰላት ምሰ ውልቀሰባት፣ ማሕበራት፣ ጋዜጠኛታትን፣ ናይ ሕጊ ሰብ ሞያ፣ ተጣበቕቲ ሰብኣዊ መሰላት፣ ዘይመንግስታውያን ትካላትን ሃገራትን ዕማሙ ንምስላጥ ክሰርሕ ምዃኑ የፍልጥ። እዚ ምንቅስቃስ ሒዙዎ ዘሎ መርትዖታት ኣዝዩ ተአፋፊ ብምዃኑ ንውሕስነት ሂወት መሰኻኽርን ሰነዳትን ኣብ ኣተሓሕዛን ኣጠቓቕማን ብዕቱብ ከም ዝሕዞ ሓላፍነት ይወስደሉ።
ጨንፈር መጽናዕቲ ግህሰት ሰብኣዊ መሰላት ስርሐቱ ንምስልሳል ተከታተልቲ ዳህሳሳዊ ርክባት ከካይድ መዲቡ’ሎ። ዕላማ ናይዚ ርክባት፣ ነቲ ኣቐዲሙ ብዛዕባ ሰብኣዊ ግህሰት ዝተኻየደ ስራሓት ብምግምጋም ስትራተጂ ንምሕንጻጽ’ዩ። እተን ዘትኩረለን ገበናት እዘን ዝስዕባ እየን፥
1. ዘይሕጋዊ ቅትለትን ማእሰርትን፣
2. ጾታዊ ዓመጽ ደቂ ኣንስትዮ፣
3. ዕስክርና ትሕቲ ዕድመ፣ ግዱድ ዕዮ (ጊላነት)
